The 2024 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru “Clos des Chevaliers” Monopole from Domaine Jean Chartron is a breathtaking expression of precision, elegance, and terroir transparency. Produced from the domaine’s historic monopole parcel, this wine represents the pinnacle of refinement in white Burgundy.

The nose is intensely aromatic yet restrained, revealing layers of citrus blossom, preserved lemon, white peach, crushed oyster shell, hazelnut, acacia flower, and delicate smoky minerality. On the palate, the wine is remarkably linear and focused, driven by electric acidity and extraordinary mineral tension. Notes of citrus oil, orchard fruit, almond cream, chalk, and wet stone unfold with incredible detail and persistence.

Compared to the broader richness of Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier is defined by its lifted energy, finesse, and crystalline structure. The cooler 2024 vintage further accentuates this style, resulting in a wine of exceptional purity and aging potential. Profound now, but built for decades in cellar.

Grape Variety: Chardonnay
Region: Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France
Vineyard: Clos des Chevaliers (Monopole)
Style: Dry White Wine
Aging Potential: 15–30+ years
Suggested Pairings: Turbot with beurre blanc, lobster, caviar, truffle dishes, roasted Bresse chicken, aged alpine cheeses

Critic Reviews & Awards

Domaine Jean Chartron’s “Clos des Chevaliers” is widely regarded as one of the benchmark expressions of Chevalier-Montrachet due to the rarity and quality of the monopole site.

Decanter 98pts.

Drinking Window: 2035 - 2070
Consistently among my favourite Chevaliers, the Clos des Chevaliers from Jean Chartron does not disappoint, with pronounced aromas of greengage plum, lemon peel and nectarine, a stony mineral foundation and accents of acacia flowers and spice. On the palate, the wine shows exceptional concentration and depth of flavour, with a lively, dynamic feel; it is superb in every regard. The half-hectare of vines at the northern end of the historical section of Chevalier is among the greatest sites for white wine in Burgundy.

Previous vintages have received exceptional critical acclaim, including: 96–98 Points – Decanter, 95–97 Points – Vinous, 94–97 Points – Burghound, 95+ Points – Wine Advocate

Critics consistently praise the wine’s precision, mineral intensity, and extraordinary balance between concentration and finesse.

The 2024 vintage across Burgundy is being noted for freshness, structure, and classical tension — particularly well-suited to terroir-driven Grand Cru Chardonnay.

Founded in 1859, Domaine Jean Chartron is one of the historic reference-point estates of Puligny-Montrachet. The domaine is internationally respected for its terroir-focused Chardonnay and exceptional holdings throughout the Côte de Beaune, including the monopole Clos des Chevaliers within Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru.
