The 2024 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru “Clos de la Pucelle” Monopole from Domaine Jean Chartron is a beautifully detailed and refined Chardonnay that perfectly captures the elegance and mineral precision of Puligny-Montrachet. Produced from the domaine’s historic monopole vineyard directly beside the estate, this wine combines depth and concentration with remarkable finesse.

The nose opens with aromas of citrus blossom, white peach, Meyer lemon, crushed chalk, hazelnut, and delicate hints of brioche and acacia flower. On the palate, the wine is vibrant and layered, revealing notes of orchard fruit, lemon curd, almond cream, wet stone, and saline minerality. The texture is silky yet energetic, supported by finely tuned acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish.

The 2024 vintage emphasizes freshness, tension, and precision, making this an especially elegant expression of Clos de la Pucelle. While approachable in its youth for its purity and balance, the wine possesses the structure and depth to age beautifully over the next two decades.

Critic Reviews & Awards

Domaine Jean Chartron’s “Clos de la Pucelle” is widely regarded as one of the flagship Premier Cru wines of Puligny-Montrachet due to the rarity and consistency of the monopole site.

Decanter, 95pts.

Tasted by: Charles Curtis MW (at Burgundy, 30 Sep 2025)
Drinking Window: 2030 - 2060
The concentrated exotic fruit aromas of this wine range from passionfruit and kiwi to gooseberry, with accents of acacia flower, spice and smoke. The texture strikes a beautiful balance between lively, fresh acidity and substantial extract, lingering exquisitely on the palate. The grapes are from just over a hectare of vines planted at the northern end of Les Pucelles, including a sliver of the Clos des Meix, which mainly belongs to Domaine Leflaive. This powerful wine should last 30 years at least.

Previous vintages have received outstanding critical acclaim, including: 94–96 Points – Vinous, 93–95 Points – Burghound, 94 Points – Decanter, 93+ Points – Wine Advocate

Critics consistently praise the wine’s combination of mineral intensity, elegance, and layered complexity.

Early commentary on the 2024 vintage in Burgundy suggests exceptional freshness and classical structure, particularly in terroir-driven sites like Puligny-Montrachet.
