The 2024 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru “Les Folatières” from Domaine Jean Chartron is a stunningly elegant and expressive Chardonnay that showcases the lifted, mineral-driven character of one of Puligny-Montrachet’s most celebrated Premier Cru vineyards.

The nose is vibrant and aromatic, revealing layers of citrus blossom, white peach, Meyer lemon, crushed stone, and delicate hints of toasted almond and acacia flower. On the palate, the wine is beautifully refined and energetic, combining silky texture with striking precision and tension. Notes of lemon curd, ripe orchard fruit, hazelnut, chalk, and saline minerality unfold with exceptional clarity and persistence.

Les Folatières is known for producing wines of finesse and aromatic complexity, often sitting stylistically between the richness of Meursault and the precision of classic Puligny. The cooler, more classical 2024 vintage emphasizes freshness, purity, and terroir transparency, resulting in a Premier Cru of remarkable balance and aging potential.

The Chartron bottling of Folatières is a step above the other (very admirable) premier crus of this estate, and seems to me nearly at the same level of quality as the grands crus. There is a pronounced aroma that ranges from lemon peel and citrus to more exotic notes of passionfruit and ripe nectarine. The texture is concentrated and surprisingly rich with extract for the vintage, yet balanced by exceptional freshness that lingers interminably on the palate. The grapes are from a half-hectare in Ez Folatières in the centre of the climat running from the middle up to the wood.

Previous vintages have received strong critical acclaim, including: 93–95 Points – Vinous, 92–94 Points – Burghound, 93 Points – Decanter, 92–94 Points – Wine Advocate

Critics frequently highlight the wine’s balance of texture, tension, and layered complexity, with particular praise for its long mineral finish.
